Katie is an experienced economist, analyst and policy maker. She has worked in senior leadership roles in government and been on the board of trustees for not-for-profit and government organizations. Throughout her career she has applied her analytic skills, knowledge of behavioral science, strategic thinking abilities and facilitation skill to tackle tricky public policy issues around quality, equity, value and impact. Katie regularly sat on national working groups and expert panels, coordinating with patient representatives and clinical advisors. Her work has often focused on how to support more complex needs – including mental health needs, social care provision and complex health conditions. Work focused on how to understand root causes and how to support people to live healthier longer lives.
Katie has worked in regional development, the energy sector and spent over a decade as a leader in the health sector, working in both the US and UK for the National Health Service (NHS) in England. She led national policy development on payment reforms to support improved access and quality of care at the right time. This included work on mental health care and how to incentivize better outcomes across all care settings. As part of her roles she has developed and shared national and international best practice in health care and been able to work closely with National Clinical Directors in the NHS. To help inform regional improvement work she lead work to develop a linked data sets across care settings, to mode this data, and work with clinical teams to review analysis and improve the way care is delivered. Over 2020 and 2021 she provided analysis and strategic input to support London’s response to the Covid-19 emergency.
Before entering the health sector her work focused on statistical modeling, capturing voices of service users and developing evidence-based policies. This included roles working as a consultant and civil servant, first in regional economic development, and then as a regulator and policy maker in the energy sector – focused on consumer protection and supporting the rollout of green technologies.
Before moving back to the US, Katie was also a lecturer at The London School of Economics’ Executive Education program for leaders and managers across government and regulated industries. Her focus was sharing how behavioral science can be used to improve both regulations and corporate decision-making – translating the latest in academic theory and real-world industry insights into action-oriented takeaways for organizations who wanted to remain at the cutting edge or reshape the way they do business.
